Deer Hunting 2010

Sunday, November 7th...

It was a really successful season this year! Jeremy shot a big 8-point buck but it was taken in to Twin Rivers for the Big Buck Contest so I didn't get a picture of it. It field dressed at 207 lbs. (I'm told that's BIG).

Craig got a 6-point buck and Keith got a nice doe.

Halloween 2010

Halloween was stretched out over several days this year so we were able to go to a lot of parties. The kids had a great time and got WAY too much candy. Keith was happy! =) Jared was Batman, Chloe was a Chicken, and Morgan was a Pumpkin.

Jared had a Halloween party at school so I got to go see them all dressed up.

Jared with his buddy, Brendan, in their costumes (check out that pose!)

Friday night the ECFE put on an event at Jefferson school so all five of us went to that.

Jared mastering the rock wall...

Chloe stacking blocks with a Tiger.

Jared pounding golf tees into pumpkins... what a great idea!
Then on Saturday United Prairie Bank had a party at Vogel Arena.

Jared decorating his cupcake. (See Morgan's cute bear butt in the background?)

Chloe & Kennedy (from daycare) giving hugs... too cute!

I think they had the most fun running around the room!

Morgan's 1st Tooth!

Wednesday, November 10th...
Miss Morgan has been gnawing on anything and everything she can get her chubby little hands on lately. Her hard work has finally paid off... a tooth popped through her bottom gum! Can't see it very well but it's nice and sharp. She's just over 6 months old. She'll need them chompers the way she's been eating lately... she loves food!
Update... she got her second tooth 2 days later! You'd never know she was teething since she's such happy baby. Love, love, love that chubby smile. =)

Morgan's 6 Month Check-Up

Monday, November 8th...

We took Morgan in for her 6 month well baby check. She was super smiley, as usual, so everyone was commenting on how adorable she is. You just want to squeeze those chubby cheeks! Dr. Jorve said she's doing very well and is doing everything a normal 6-month-old should be doing. The only thing we need to work on is rolling from tummy to back... We're also going to start trying more baby food. She is still not a fan of cereal but we keep trying it every day. She got 4 shots... 3 immunizations and the flu shot... 2 in each leg. Poor girl! She screamed and turned bright red but as soon as I picked her up, she calmed down. I had to laugh... Jared was very concerned about the shots but didn't want to be in the room when she got them so he waited out in the hallway. I could hear him say to someone, "She still sounds happy so they haven't given her her shots yet." What a good big brother! =)
Here are her stats:
  • Weight: 18lbs. 8oz. (90.8%)
  • Length: 26.75" (84.3%)
  • Head Circumference: 17.75" (97.5%)
  • Weight for Length: 79.2%

Helget Farm

Saturday, October 23rd...

Jared and I helped Keith and Roger combine corn at the Helget farm that we rent over by Hanska. It was a beautiful Fall day and since there was a lot of time in between loads (they haul it about 25 miles back to St. George) we walked down by the creek that runs in between the fields and did some exploring. Jared was concerned about snakes in the tall grass but we didn't see any. I wonder who would've screamed louder... him or me? ;)

Keith showed me how to drive the combine so I could have everything full when they got back with an empty truck. They got it last year but I never got a chance to drive it. It's SO easy! Just push a button and the head lowers... no more constantly adjusting it up and down or worrying about burying the snoots in the dirt. There are sensors on the head and in the hopper so when it's full the buzzer goes off and you stop. On the old combine, you had to keep an eye on it or it would be overflowing everywhere... and you know how well that would go over!

Jared has spent many hours in the combine so you can see him sharing his wisdom and telling me what I needed to know. That kid just cracks me up! He'll be running most of the equipment when he's tall enough to reach everything... watch out!

More waiting... we had a contest to see who could find the most ears of corn that didn't make it in the combine.

When I got to the end of the field I saw 2 does wandering around but by the time I got the camera out one had gone into the corn. Keith was plowing last night and saw 3 bucks, a doe and beaver. I guess they take the corn stalks to build their dams. Kinda neat!

I asked Jared if he wanted to go swim in the corn and he looked at me like I was nuts! We used to do it all the time when I was a kid so I had to get in there and show him what I was talking about. As he was climbing up the ladder he said, "that sign says we can't go in there or we'll die". Ha! Such a little worry wart. I had to explain that the warning sticker meant only when the equipment was running and that the auger could suck a person down in there.

He had a great time!

He wants a bed of corn at home cuz it's SO comfy! I don't think so, buddy! =)
