More projects

August 15th...
Keith reshingled the detached garage roof by himself... with a little help from Jared.
Not a fun job by any means. There were 2 layers of shingles and it's a really steep pitch so there was a lot of "complaining" going on... if you know what I mean. I'll keep it clean ;)

Fun at the Fair

August 14th...

They had an area where the kids could go in the pens and touch the animals.

Jared holding a chicken. Ashlyn wasn't too sure about this...

But she did get a finger on one to see for herself.

Chloe by the goats. She wanted to get closer but daddy grabbed her before she grabbed one of them!

Pot bellied pigs... so cute!

Jared wanted to be like the 4H kids that were sitting by the cows. Except they sit behind them... not by their feet!

Pedal Pull 2010

August 13th...
Jared competed in 2 pedal pulls over the weekend... Friday at the Brown County Fair in New Ulm and Saturday at the Nicollet County Fair in St. Peter. He got first place on Friday with a full pull (went all the way to the limit). He got second place on Saturday. There were 9 kids (out of 25) that had full pulls in his age group so they had those 9 pull again with a heavier weight. That was a little tougher... no full pulls.
He just LOVES doing it and is very proud of his trophies! He also qualified for the State Pedal Pull in September (in Hutchinson) so we'll be doing that again this year.
Here are a few pics of our little power house...
Top 3 pullers in the 5-year-old class...
Ben Beranek (1st place 6-year-old) & Jared (1st place 5-year-old)

We found out Saturday morning that Jared was on the front page of The Journal... WOW!!! We were also surprised to see what a big picture it was!!! Kinda neat to see your kid's picture displayed like this so I just had to take a picture. ;)

The details...
The pic from the Journal photographer... so intense!

Kamp Dels

August 6th - 8th...
We went camping at Kamp Dels in Waterville with 5 other families. It's right along Lake Sakatah. It was a GREAT time with wonderful friends. There were 12 adults and 14 kids! Morgan got to spend a night at each grandparent's house since she's so young and the camper we were borrowing was kinda small for all of us. Plus it was nice for Keith and I to get to spend quality time the Jared & Chloe.
There was so much to do and it was a very kid-friendly campground. The swimming pool and water park were very close... There was a petting zoo, several parks, pony rides, mini golf... and much more. We spent a lot of time in the water since it was so hot. Jared has officially turned into a fish! He has never willingly jumped into the water if he was going to be going under (someone always had to catch him). Not anymore. He was jumping off the diving boards all by himself (with the assistance of arm floaties) and LOVED it! He did it over and over and over... even in the rain on Saturday morning.
Saturday night the Beraneks and LeGares decided to go on a bike ride. We knew the Sakatah bike trail was less than a mile away (on the other side of the lake) so we thought we'd check it out. It was AWESOME! It was basically a paved trail through the forest... smooth and flat. Perfect. Jared did great. He pedalled his little heart out. I remembered that the trail met up with a road on the other side of the lake so we could make the full loop. No big deal. Little did I know that it would be very hilly. Quite the workout with Chloe in the trailer behind me! The total trip was about 9 miles... felt more like 20! Ha! None of us bike on a regular basis but we all made it. Jared was ready to do it again the next day... go figure!
Here are a bunch of pics... wish I would have taken more of the group and the campground. I'll have to remember that for next time. Keith is actually thinking about investing in one. I think we'd use it quite a bit since it's a relatively inexpensive way to vacation. Plus it FUN!!!
Chloe fell asleep in the bike trailer on our first ride through the campground.
Showing off going backwards like the big kids... monkey see, monkey do!
Blake Voges, Afton Hulke, Hunter Hulke (in the water) and Abby Voges
Swimming in the rain
We rented a paddle boat. Seemed like a fun idea... til we got stuck in the weeds. They were everywhere! Keith and I were sweating and sore when it was over.
Chloe was not a fan of the lifejacket.
This was before the weeds... note the smiles that Keith and I have.

Yee Haa!
Trying it with the goggles this time.

Kiddie Pool... a.k.a. the hot tub.
Does it get an better than this?!
WHAT?!
Chloe & Daddy hanging out at the campsite
MaKenna was nice enough to share her pony with all of the kids.
Jared said it was the highlight of his weekend!
Cole Voges... what a happy kid!
The big playground...
Resting in the shade... it was HOT!!!
Peek-a-boo!

Rock wall...
Check out that mowhawk!
Taking a break before we get back on the bikes.

July 31st...
The Brennans had their birthday party.
Lily turns 6 in August and Alec & Ava turned 4 in July so they had a combined party.

Lily pushing Chloe on the swing

It was a perfect day for a water figth!

Not sure the umbrella helped

Or maybe it did...

And the biggest kid of all... I think Chelsey had the most fun!
